JM Bullion review: an easy first gold order, if you pay by check and skip the tiny bars
JM Bullion ships free over $199 and sells everything from a 1 gram bar to Eagles. We priced its fractional gold against spot and read the payment page, where a 4% discount changes the maths.
7.3/10
JM Bullion is an easy, well-run first stop for a small physical gold order: a clear catalogue, free shipping over $199, insured delivery and a parent that is listed on the Nasdaq. Its weakness is price on the smallest items, where a 1 gram bar carries a premium near 28%. Buy larger coins, and pay by check, ACH or wire.

A first gold purchase goes wrong in two ways: you pay a huge premium for something small, or you send money to a dealer you cannot check. JM Bullion avoids the second and invites the first. We came to it with a simple question, whether it is the easiest place to order a small amount of gold, and the answer has a wrinkle in it.
What the buying experience is like
The site is a conventional shop: categories for coins, bars, fractional gold, IRA gold and gold notes, plus silver, platinum and palladium. Live spot prices sit in the header, so you can see exactly what the market says while you browse. Support answers by phone Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm CST, which matters when a wire deadline is ticking. Before you order, look at the product page for the year, mint and condition, since the same weight of gold can carry very different premiums.
JM Bullion has belonged to A-Mark Precious Metals, a Nasdaq-listed company, since March 2021. It carries an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, as one review round-up reports. Neither of those is a guarantee, and both are worth more than a stranger's website.
Where small orders get expensive
Fractional gold is the category a newcomer is drawn to, because it fits a small budget. It is also where the premium hurts. The fractional gold page showed spot at $4,200.43 an ounce when we captured it, or about $135 a gram.
Against that, a generic 1 gram bar of varied condition started at $173.03, a premium near 28%. Newly assayed 1 gram bars from Sunshine, Valcambi, Argor Heraeus and Perth Mint ran from $178.03 to $189.93, or roughly 32% to 41% over spot.
Compare a quarter-ounce coin of random year at "from $1,080.10" against $1,050 of gold, which is under 3%. Those figures come from the seller's own page, and stock changes by the hour. The lesson holds anyway: cost per gram falls fast as the item gets bigger. A newcomer's best route is one coin worth $500 or more, not four bars of a gram each.

The fractional gold page. Grams and hundredths of an ounce cost the most per gram of gold.
For 1 oz American Gold Eagles, one price tracker listed a premium around 6% on the 2026 coin. Treat that as indicative, and check the live price.
, and they should. Check, ACH and wire earn a 4% discount, and crypto earns 3%. Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Klarna get nothing.
That means the card price is about 4% higher than the check price on the same coin. On a 6% premium, paying by check nearly halves what you pay over spot. The trade-off is time: check and ACH need 3 to 5 business days to clear before anything ships, while wire payments must arrive within one business day of the order.

Shipping and where the insurance stops
Orders of $199 and above ship free. Orders normally leave within one business day of cleared payment through USPS, FedEx, UPS or an armored car service, and the packaging hides what is inside. The page does not say what shipping costs below $199.
One clause deserves a highlight. Insurance covers transit only. Coverage ends once the carrier gets a signature or delivery confirmation, so a package left on a porch is yours to protect. Choose signature delivery.

Selling back
The Sell To Us page runs a do-it-yourself buyback. A third-party summary puts the minimum at $1,000 with payment within a week of receipt. Expect a bid below spot plus your premium, as with every dealer.

Who should buy here
Buy from JM Bullion if you are in the US, have at least $200, and want a simple order with insured shipping. Pay by check, ACH or wire when you can wait.
Skip it if you want a few grams of gold, or if you want the dealer to vault the metal for you, in which case a specialist such as BullionVault is the better fit. Gold does not pay interest, its price can fall, and a first purchase should be money you will not need soon. This is not personal advice.
Verdict
A 7.3 out of 10: a reliable, orderly dealer whose smallest products are poor value.
