MetaTrader 5 is the better platform on paper: 21 timeframes, 38 indicators, six pending order types, a multi-threaded tester and depth of market. The switch is only painless if you trade by hand or run robots you can rebuild. If your income depends on a library of MQL4 expert advisors, staying on MT4 is the rational choice for now.

Myfxbook is the closest thing forex has to an independent audit trail, and it costs nothing. Linking an account gives you an equity curve, drawdown, and a trade log that matches the broker's own records. It does not prove skill: a verified demo, a lucky month or a padded deposit can all look good. Treat a Verified badge as the start of due diligence, and skip AutoTrade unless you accept the provider's drawdown as your own.

NinjaTrader is a strong route for a forex trader who wants to trade currency and gold through regulated futures. Micro contracts need day margins from about $50, the platform is free, and commissions fall from $0.39 to $0.09 per micro side as you move from Free to the $1,499 Lifetime plan. It is a futures venue, not a spot forex broker: contracts expire, sizes are fixed and exchange fees sit on top. Casual traders should stay on the Free plan.
